They are popular with the critics and have a long running universe + movies coming out by Sony. A thread is justified. Hopefully someone else will post in it besides me.

I just wish Solar was still in Valiant. That way when they do make his movie, I would watch the shit out of it.

Started reading Ninjak recently, it's been a fun read with some great art especially the covers. I've been thinking of picking up X-O Manowar and Rai too.

Finally a comic company other than the big 2 get some love on spacebattles. Say is there chance that archer and armstrong might continue? I read the more recent version on scribd and it lasted 25 issues which seemed weird cause I felt it had more story to tell. If not with archer then arams adventure throughout the ages or Mary maria running that murder cult.

I've got a stack of the old Valiant comics, including the Harbinger graphic novel and issues 1-4 of Solar, Man of the Atom.
Damn, that was some good stuff. "What would Doom, or Darth Vader do?"-musings of Phil Seleski, as he tries to defeat the Doctor Solar apparition he created from his own imagination.

Due to Comic Book Bears Podcast tried A&A 2012 again. I think I like it most in the middle. From playing with the conspiracy and crypto history more deliberately with a push to a theme. the more consistent push and characterization and relevance of Archer and the careful introduction then spinoff of the Three Brothers and the trials of immortality and so on.
I did not feel as satisfied by the endings emotional come down. I feel Archer grew but Armstrong deliberately got to skip that, though with a point maybe there isn't much he needs to change.
right now working through The Delinquents. I know A&A mainly from post cancellation cheapo pickups of the original run. Some changed in the 2012 I didn't like others worked fantastically. Admittedly I feel this Armstrong is setup up too much as a moral foundation/rolemodel as to the previous where it felt there was more genuine synergy between the idealistic but arrogant Archer and the blessed but dissolute Armstrong. Likely because he felt like he wasn't above it all and the drawback wasn't "oh the pale sadness of immortal life forced to watch my friends and lover die" In fact that was what I LOVED about the character. He was immortal and depressed but more because people get depressed not immortality gave him a special case to end up that way and he was still learning and trying. Admittedly making this one more... finished seems better. I just don't know. Maybe it works out better in the Delinquents AND the later adventures.
I LOVED the Maria conflict overall. It was Nice Guy and Bad Girl with both seriously needing to grow up and have a point. As well as shoutouts and reuses of many of the old series aspects
But their is, as always, a love for the craft from playing the audience and the conspiracy theory AND the thinking that goes into it in the last volume, and shout outs to Freakin' Gravity Falls. Beautiful stuff. not sure how I feel about the alt depictions of Armstrong. And I doubt I'll dip my toe out to Bloodshot or HARD Corps. but kudos for the crossover being as fair as possible to entice a reader to want to branch out in a way the previous Valiant and Acclaim failed ot, feeling too damned intrusive. Admittedly part of that might be I know I can actually catch up with getting out my wallet.
Overall renewed interest with an eye for trades (money is tight I'm doing this through the library)

Gotta say, I'm really enjoying Manowar and Ninjak. The latter especially with the current story arc and how action packed it is.

As a fan of the Big Two, exactly what is Valiant Comics? I know my local comic shop is pushing Faith, but I know nothing about this superhero universe. Can someone bring me up to speed so I can decide if I want to pick it up?

Valiant Comics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Valiant universe is very similar to Marvel or D.C. in terms of characters and stories just with story lines are written intentionally to be more cohesive to make them more accessible to new readers. Faith for example is a character from an ongoing series called Harbinger, which is Valiant's equivalent of the X-Men, who then got a mini series spin off and now getting her ongoing standalone series. The best way to start with Valiant is to read any of their trade paperback collections as they collect an entire arc, which is usually four or five issues long and are pretty reasonably priced.

I think some did. The current shadow loa is a sort of outcast banished from a voodoo pantheon and has been killing other loa to get accepted back. It's been killing other loa by possessing its hosts aka the Shadowmen before the current one.

Was it said in shadowman 0 that the shadowmans power came from the unborn son of the first shadowman and damien darks sister?

I think it did and I think the kid was stillborn instead of unborn. And after beating Darque, the next storyline had Jack blacking out and slowly losing control of the shadow loa who was using his body to kill other loa like it did the second Shadowman and others after. The shadow loa was talking to another loa on how 'the Pantheon' will accept him back in if he kills enough.
As for the Deadside? Not much is said about it. It's magic. That's all I can say, really. An in-between for lost souls who can't find the afterlife but also in Ninjak during Operation Deadside, it was also a dimension of other living magical creatures with cities and a diverse population inhabiting it.

A bit late to the party but I got the first issue of Zephyr/Faiths ongoing and liked it, it was the fact she's plus sized that caught my eye and I'm glad I gave it a shot, it's interesting to see how her boss having learned of her identity immediately realized she could exploit it
Keeping an eye out for some of the upcoming titles like Britannia, Gen Zero and Harbinger: Renegades, the blurbs make them sound interesting
With how crappy both DC and Marvel are fast becoming I've decided to take the plunge and give Valiant a shot, anyone got any recommendations for ongoings or trades?

Well... Bloodshot has a kid, Ninjak just figured out his whole life has been orchestrated by an MI-6 splinter group called The Adjustment Bureau and that there were other ninjas before him, Aric had a kid who died of Leukemia so he left Earth but has come back as of the latest issue, Shadowman's been trapped in the Deadside and has just now returned in a new Shadowman series curently in its second issue, the Harbinger crew sorta broke up after one of their own died and are now getting back together for Harbinger Wars II, not sure about the others.

I haven't read the recent reboots, but I have fond, fond memories of the originals. Harbinger was an absolutly brilliant take on the mutant powers thesis. Valiant is probably the reason I am not a particularly diehard Marvel/DC fan. That and Wildstorm.
The biggest gripe I have with the recent Valient is that their art is that same digital airbrush trash the rest of comics are these days. If they were to prompt their artists to replicate the old Valiant art style, well, I could see them dominating the industry.

Right, so I just logged on CBR for the first time in a while and found out that Valiant got sold a few months ago? Haven't been following for a while, but apparently they got sold to some Chinese media company called DMG?
